The Coalition for Physician Well-Being presents conversations with healthcare professionals who support wholeness within their organizations. Our guests understand that in the pursuit of wholeness we must encompass the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health care of each individual, in order to reinvigorate their purpose and meaning. Hosted by one of our very own members, Dr. Michael Brown of Acesis. 

Episode 1:  Sue Kiernan, MA/PCC/CPC

Sue Kiernan started her professional career as a speech and language pathologist and then worked her way up through different healthcare executive leadership roles in large healthcare systems. Sue is now a leadership coach who focuses on healthcare. She founded her business, Centered on Success, in 2000, and during that time has coached hundreds of providers, including nurses, Advance Practice Providers, physicians, and leaders at all levels. She is accredited by the International Coach Federation and the Physicians Coaching Institute. 

Episode 2:  Mary Wolf, MS, LPC-MH

Mary Wolf is the Program Director for the Avera Medical Group’s LIGHT Program, a wellbeing program for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician’s assistants. In this role, she provides executive coaching to help people improve their leadership skills, manage transitions, and deal with grief/work pressures, or family issues. Through her work, she helps caregivers find ways to create meaning and joy in practicing medicine. Mary also owns Veritee Partners, an executive/physician coaching and wellbeing consulting business. 

Episode 3:  William Bynum, MD

Will Bynum is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine and the Family Medicine Residency Program Director at Duke University. His primary academic interest centers on the role of self-conscious emotions (shame, guilt, and pride) in the medical learning experience. He and his team have published articles from their qualitative work with residents and medical students. He is conducting this program of research through a PhD in health professions education at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. 

Episode 4:  Dan Diamond. MD

Dan Diamond is a family physician with years of international disaster experience.  He was deployed to the Philippines following Typhoon Yolanda, led one of the first teams into Haiti after their devastating earthquake, and played a strategic role as the Director of the Medical Triage Unit in the New Orleans Convention Center following Hurricane Katrina. From these experiences and others, he has discovered insights and strategies that we can use to thrive under pressure.   

Episode 5:  Steve Sartori, MD

Steve Sartori is Director of The Center for Well-being at Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA). He has been CEO of a private group practice, chief of staff at two hospitals, faculty member for a family medicine residency program, and chief medical officer for a faith-based community health center. He is now a certified physician coach, who helps doctors and other healthcare professionals align with God, optimize well-being and maximize influence. 

Episode 6:  Barbara Hernandez, PhD

Barbara Hernandez is the founding director of the Office of Physician Vitality which she has led since 2011. She began her career as an ICU nurse, while becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist and behavioral health educator. Her clinical background includes private and group practice, therapist trainee supervision, and training clinic directorships. Loma Linda University Health was recognized for excellence in its support of physician well-being under her leadership as a recipient of the Medicus Integra award from the Coalition in 2016.
